Since launching in 2016, Ben’s Zap Haul has proudly served Nevada County homeowners and businesses with high-quality, hands-on solutions for property cleanup, grading, and improvement. Meet Ben – A Local with Deep Roots & Real Experience
Ben’s story starts in rural Santa Cruz County, where he was operating farm equipment by age 14 and managing ecologically sensitive land in riparian zones. His hands-on upbringing and love for the land led him to study landscape design, architecture, and engineering technology at Cabrillo College, UC Berkeley Extension, and Sierra College, with a focus on plan reading and drafting. Ben has:
•Over 15 years of experience as a rural property handyman and groundskeeper
•Managed McPherson’s Nursery in Grass Valley and a garden center in Hawaii
•Won three Blue Ribbons and Best of Show for garden design at the Santa Cruz County Fair
•Earned degrees from UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College, along with two drafting certificates
Ben’s family legacy is rooted in Nevada County, where one side of the family operated a well-loved landscape nursery in Grass Valley, and the other ran a rural land development company in the historic You Bet area — installing roads, fire breaks, and building pads for over three generations.
