Meet Ben – A Local with Deep Roots & Real Experience
Ben’s story starts in rural Santa Cruz County, where he was operating farm equipment by age 14 and managing ecologically sensitive land in riparian zones. His hands-on upbringing and love for the land led him to study landscape design, architecture, and engineering technology at Cabrillo College, UC Berkeley Extension, and Sierra College, with a focus on plan reading and drafting. Ben has:
- Over 15 years of experience as a rural property manager
- Managed McPherson’s Nursery in Grass Valley and a garden center in Hawaii
- Earned degrees from UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College, along with two drafting certificates
Ben’s family legacy is rooted in Nevada County, where one side of the family operated a well-loved landscape nursery in Grass Valley, and the other ran a rural land development company in the historic You Bet area – installing roads and firebreaks.
